Why Dandelions?
Dandelions represent resilience, hope, and transformation. Because dandelions can grow under difficult or seemingly impossible circumstances, I wanted to bring that same spirit and energy of endurance and strength and to my clients on their growth journey.
“And the dandelion does not stop growing because it’s told it’s a weed. The dandelion does not care what others see. It says, ‘One day they’ll be making wishes upon me.’”
-B. Atkinson
About Me
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Sydney Woods (she/her) and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) practicing in Arizona.
I have been fortunate enough to have a father who was a therapist. Growing up, I always felt heard, understood, and supported in my family of origin. I realize that is not the case for so many people, and not feeling accepted as your authentic self can be deeply painful. My goals as a therapist are to be able to provide a safe space for clients where they can dig into who they are and give them the tools to be able to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.
I attended the University of Arizona for both my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, as well as my Master of Arts in Counseling- Rehabilitation and Mental Health Emphasis. I am an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), and I hold a Clinical Supervisory credential through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
My therapeutic approach is multidisciplinary. Primarily person-centered, I provide clients with the option to incorporate a variety of different techniques depending on the preferences of the individual client. I will often pull from therapeutic orientations like Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Feminist Therapy. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. I work with adults 18 and up.
I have worked in several different settings with a wide range of clients. I specialize in working with adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, interpersonal challenges, communication, difficulties with self-esteem, and trauma. I love working with clients who are excited to understand themselves and their emotions at a deeper level and gain insight about how they interface with the people in their lives. Nothing makes me happier than when a client has an ah-ha moment in session and I get to watch them apply that new insight to their lives moving forward.
